REGISTRATION CLOSED - Navajo Vegetal Wool Dyeing with Jay Begay
WORKSHOP REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED
Spend a day with natural dyes and learn a new avenue into color possibilities from ancient traditions. This class will cover some of the long history of natural dyes, the color possibilities they offer, mordanting techniques, the dyeing process, and some color theory. We will use readily available dyes like Navajo carrots, ground lichen, onion skins, and indigo. Students will take home dyeing instructions, samples of their dyeing, information on each of the dyes used, and source lists on where to get them.

Material Fee
In addition to the workshop registration fee, a material fee of $40.00 is payable to the instructor at the start of the workshop. Students will receive four skeins of Navajo-Churro yarn to be dyed in the workshop.
About the Instructor
Jay Begay originates from the community of Rocky Ridge in Northeastern Arizona. Jay's childhood was spent with his late paternal grandmother tending to the flock of sheep and goats. It was from his grandma that he acquired the skills required to continue the pastoral ways. Today, he continues to raise Navajo-Churro sheep and Angora goats. Jay enjoys working with fiber and sharing his knowledge.
