Sheep and Goat Hide Tanning with Jay Begay
Join Jay Begay for a two-day immersion into the traditional art of tanning sheep and goat hides by hand. In this intimate and experiential class, students will be taken through the tanning process from start to finish. Each student will leave the workshop with a sheep or goat hide they personally tanned by hand.
Date & Time
Friday, May 29th and Saturday, May 30th from 9 am to 4 pm daily (with a one-hour lunch break)
In addition to the workshop registration fee, a material fee of $175.00 is payable to the instructor at the start of theworkshop.
About the Instructor
Jay Begay originates from the community of Rocky Ridge in Northeastern Arizona. Jay's childhood was spent with his late paternal grandmother tending to the flock of sheep and goats. It was from his grandma that he acquired the skills required to continue the pastoral ways. Today, he continues to raise Navajo-Churro sheep and Angora goats. Jay enjoys working with fiber and sharing his knowledge.
