Off-loom Weaving with Jessica Holton
In this workshop, participants will learn a brief history of weaving and off-loom weaving. Participants will discover the mental health benefits of weaving. They will also understand the basics of weaving. Participants will start with the same pattern/structure, then participants will begin a pattern of their choosing. They will learn how to begin the warp and weft on a 5" x 5" piece of wood (without pegs or grooves). They will use a tapestry needle for the shuttle.
This workshop is open to students age 16+

About the Instructor
Jessica Holton is a clinical social worker who began her fiber arts journey in September 2022 after taking a drop spindle fiber spinning class. She began weaving on a tapestry loom in October 2022, taught herself how to knit in December 2022, and attended her first off-loom (virtual) workshop in February 2023. She won Best of Show for an off-loom weaving piece at the 2023 Flagstaff Wool and Fiber Festival and another off-loom piece was exhibited at the Coconino Center for the Arts at Form and Fiber: Handmade Textile Art from April 12, 2025 to June 7, 2025.
