Learn to knit cozy, custom-fit socks from the top down in this beginner-friendly class. We will cover the traditional cuff-down method, including a stretchy cast-on, creating the heel flap and gusset, turning the heel, and finishing with a seamless Kitchener stitch toe. Perfect for confident beginners, this class sets you up for future knitting adventures and socks for all your loved ones. 


This workshop is open to students age 16+


Festival Admission Included:

Workshop registration includes free admission to the festival. Just let the gate staff know which class you are attending when you arrive.

Skill Level

Basic knitting, purling, knitting in the round, and decreases (SSK and K2tog) 


Materials Fee

$5.00 for the pattern

Students Should Bring

• 1 skein of fingering weight/sock yarn to obtain gauge (optional). If you want to just practice, you can bring thicker yarns and adequate needles for it. Gauge: 28.0 sts = 4 inches. Please check your gauge before you start knitting the sock to save time later. • Needles: Size US #2 set of 4 double pointed needles (2.75 mm) OR needle of preference (two circular needles same size or magic loop)

• Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers, scissors.


About the Instructor

In the past 23 years Andrea has taught thousands of knitters in the USA and abroad to use the Portuguese Style of Knitting, either personally, through her 3 published DVDs, or her book “Portuguese Style of Knitting – History, Traditions and Techniques”.


As the foremost expert on the subject, she teaches knitting at venues throughout the country and abroad, has been published in a variety of knitting magazines, TV programs, and books and is the lead designer for her business, Andrea Wong Knits. She continues to travel the world researching and developing her style of knitting, and bringing that knowledge to knitters worldwide.
